Background
Wamo Relief and Rehabilitation Services (WRRS) is a Somali national humanitarian and development organization working to support vulnerable and crisis-affected communities through integrated humanitarian and development programming.
WRRS is implementing a sustainable development and resource management project in Afmadow District, Lower Juba, aimed at strengthening livelihoods, resilience and sustainable management of natural resources among vulnerable communities.
Under the project, WRRS will provide market-oriented vocational and entrepreneurial training to 500 vulnerable adults, including women, young people, internally displaced persons and persons with disabilities. The training programme will combine technical skills development, practical learning, entrepreneurship, competency assessment, certification, work placements and subsequent livelihood support.
WRRS is therefore seeking four qualified and experienced Vocational Trainers to support the delivery of high-quality, practical and market-oriented vocational and entrepreneurial training.
Position Purpose
The Vocational Trainers will be responsible for delivering practical, competency-based and market-oriented training to selected project participants in their respective areas of specialisation.
The trainers will work under the supervision of the Head of Vocational Training Centre and will ensure that participants acquire the technical, practical and entrepreneurial knowledge required to apply their skills in income-generating activities.
The training programme will be delivered through several intakes, with courses generally comprising approximately
20–30 training days
, depending on the occupational field.

Key Responsibilities
A. Training Delivery
- Develop and deliver structured training sessions in the assigned area of specialisation.
- Deliver practical and theory-based training using appropriate adult-learning and participatory methodologies.
- Prepare lesson plans, practical exercises and training materials in coordination with the Head of Vocational Training Centre.
- Ensure training content is practical, relevant and responsive to local market and livelihood opportunities.
- Adapt training approaches to participants with different educational and learning levels.
- Deliver approximately 20–30 training days per participant intake, according to the approved training schedule.
- Provide additional practical demonstrations and exercises to strengthen participants' technical competencies.
B. Technical and Practical Skills Development
- Provide participants with practical skills relevant to their selected livelihood pathway.
- Demonstrate appropriate techniques, tools, equipment and production processes.
- Supervise practical exercises and ensure participants have sufficient opportunities to practise acquired skills.
- Promote quality standards, occupational safety and appropriate use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Identify technical gaps among participants and provide appropriate additional coaching and support.
- Link technical training with practical income-generating applications.
C. Entrepreneurship and Business Skills
Depending on the trainer's area of specialisation, support participants to understand and apply basic business principles, including:
- Business planning.
- Cost calculation and pricing.
- Basic bookkeeping and financial management.
- Quality control.
- Customer relations and marketing.
- Savings and financial planning.
- Maintenance of productive equipment.
- Identification of market opportunities.
The project specifically integrates these entrepreneurial skills into the vocational training programme to improve the sustainability of participants' income-generating activities.
D. Participant Assessment and Certification
- Conduct practical assessments of participants' skills and competencies.
- Support the Head of Vocational Training Centre in preparing participants for formal competency assessments.
- Maintain accurate records of participant performance and progress.
- Provide recommendations regarding participants' readiness for certification and practical placement.
- Support standardised skills assessments following completion of training.
- Contribute to the certification process for participants who successfully complete the training requirements.
E. Practical Learning and Work Placements
- Support participants during practical learning activities and workplace-based training.
- Coordinate with the Head of Vocational Training Centre and Work Placement Coordinator regarding practical learning requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to participants during work placements where required.
- Monitor participants' practical application of acquired skills.
- Provide feedback on participants' technical performance and learning progress.
- Support linkages between classroom training and real-world employment or income-generating opportunities.
F. Training Materials and Equipment
- Identify training materials, tools and equipment required for effective delivery of practical training.
- Ensure appropriate and efficient use of training materials and equipment.
- Promote safe handling, use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Report damaged, missing or insufficient training materials and equipment to the Head of Vocational Training Centre.
- Support practical demonstrations using available training resources.
G. Monitoring, Reporting and Coordination
- Maintain accurate daily attendance and training records.
- Submit training plans, attendance records and training reports as required.
- Provide regular updates on participant progress, challenges and training outcomes.
- Participate in trainer coordination meetings and review sessions.
- Work closely with the Head of Vocational Training Centre, Project Manager, Livelihood Officers and MEAL team.
- Contribute to project reporting, learning and documentation.
- Document lessons learned and good practices from training delivery.
- Support the collection and verification of relevant training data.
H. Gender, Inclusion and Safeguarding
- Promote equal and inclusive participation of women, young people, persons with disabilities and internally displaced persons.
- Ensure respectful and non-discriminatory treatment of all participants.
- Adapt training methods where necessary to accommodate participants with different learning needs.
- Maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive training environment.
- Comply fully with WRRS policies relating to safeguarding, PSEA, protection and code of conduct.
Areas of Specialisation
WRRS intends to recruit
four (4) Vocational Trainers
with complementary expertise in the project's priority training areas:
Entrepreneurship / Business Management Trainer
Responsible for delivering training in entrepreneurship, business planning, bookkeeping, cost calculation, pricing, financial management, marketing, customer relations and business development.
Tailoring / Garment Production Trainer
Responsible for practical and theoretical training in tailoring, garment production, sewing techniques, measurements, cutting, finishing, quality control, equipment use and maintenance.
Carpentry / Woodwork Trainer
Responsible for training participants in carpentry, woodwork, use of hand tools, measurements, construction techniques, product finishing, quality standards, occupational safety and equipment maintenance.
Agriculture / Climate-Resilient Agriculture Trainer
Responsible for practical agricultural skills, including climate-resilient production, soil and water conservation, crop production, rainwater harvesting, composting, drought-resilient practices and appropriate use of agricultural inputs.
