OBJECTIVE OF TRAINING The primary objectives of the finance training for finance staff are to: Strengthen the advanced financial management skills of Finance Department staff. Deepen understanding of donor-specific compliance requirements and reporting. Enhance capacity in financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic financial planning. Improve grant and project financial management, including risk assessment and mitigation. Advance skills in developing and monitoring budgets at organizational and project levels. Reinforce best practices in internal controls, audits, and financial accountability. Build proficiency in using financial systems, tools, and software for improved efficiency. SCOPE OF THE ASSIGNMENT Light for the World is seeking the services of a qualified individual or training institution to provide advanced finance training for its finance staff. The training will cover the following key areas: Advanced Financial Management Concepts: Strategic financial planning, cash flow optimization, and financial sustainability. Donor Compliance and Reporting: Managing complex donor requirements, financial reporting standards, and audit preparedness. Financial Analysis: Advanced ratio analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and scenario planning. Budget Development and Monitoring: Multi-year budgeting, variance analysis, and adaptive budgeting techniques. Grant and Project Financial Management: Fund allocation, expenditure tracking, and grant close-out procedures. Internal Controls and Risk Management: Strengthening controls to prevent fraud and ensure compliance. Systems and Tools: Best practices in the use of accounting and ERP systems for efficient financial management. Audit Processes: Preparation, response to audit queries, and implementation of audit recommendations. METHODOLOGY The training will use a highly participatory and practice-oriented approach, combining: Expert-led Sessions: To present advanced financial concepts and best practices. Case Studies and Real Scenarios: Using organizational and donor-specific examples. Hands-on Exercises: Data analysis, budgeting simulations, and report preparation. Peer Learning: Sharing of best practices and challenges among finance team members. Q&A and Problem-Solving Clinics: Addressing technical and operational finance issues. EXPECTED DELIVERABLES Training Plan and Materials: A detailed training plan including agenda, materials, and resources, to be submitted at least two weeks before training. Pre-training Assessment: To evaluate current knowledge and identify gaps. Training Sessions: Delivery of advanced finance training according to the agreed schedule. Post-training Assessment: To measure knowledge gained and application readiness. Training Report: Including training outcomes, participant feedback, and recommendations for ongoing capacity development.
How to Apply
DURATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT The training is expected to take place over 5 days, tentatively from
1st September 2025 to
5th September 2025. Dates will be finalized in consultation with the selected trainer. Location: The training will be held in Nairobi, with virtual options considered where necessary.
TRAINER QUALIFICATIONS The selected trainer/consultant should have and be submitted to Procurement\
[email protected]: - An advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. - At least 7 years of experience in advanced financial management and training. - Proven track record in capacity building for finance professionals, preferably in the non-profit sector. - Strong knowledge of donor compliance requirements (e.g., EU, USAID, UN, bilateral donors). - Excellent facilitation, communication, and presentation skills.
