Research Field Intern

Helen Keller is an international Non-Profit Organization currently working in 14 countries in Africa, Kenya included. Helen Keller Intl was co-founded by Helen Keller. The organization is guided by her fierce optimism and belief in human potential. Since 1915, the organization has delivered life-changing programs that are proven and science-based targeting vulnerable families in places where the need is great but access to care is limited. We understand the unique challenges and opportunities each county faces, and we tailor our programs to provide actionable recommendations for improved health outcomes. Helen Keller in partnership with Vitamin Angels and IDE are implementing “Transforming Lives through Nutrition” initiative across 12 countries aimed to improve maternal and child health through the delivery of evidence-based nutrition interventions and strengthening health and food systems at scale by putting women and children at the centre. A key component of the Transforming Lives Initiative is the Gender Responsive Health Services Project that comprises of a two- year three country (Cambodia, Kenya, and Senegal) research study. Helen Keller is currently recruiting a Research intern for six months to support data collection activities in Ganze, Magarini and Kaloleni sub counties. Only candidates currently residing in Kilifi County, preferably from Ganze, Kaloleni, or Magarini, will be considered. Key Responsibilities Support data collection including facilitation of Action Committees, Focus Group Discussions and Key Informant interviews. Capturing accurate field notes and expanding notes daily in a timely manner and submission to the Research Manager for review Adhere to all data collection protocols to ensure accuracy of data Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards, handling sensitive information with care. Attend daily debrief meetings with the research team Safely store and manage equipment (tape recorders) Qualifications and Skills Required Have a Diploma in Gender and Development Studies, Community Development, Sociology, Public Health, Nutrition, Epidemiology, Statistics or a related field. (Degree will be an added advantage) Demonstrated prior experience in conducting qualitative data collection Currently a resident of Kilifi County, preferably from Ganze, Kaloleni, or Magarini sub counties. Familiar with the local communities, understanding and respecting local customs and norms. Strong communication skills and ability to communicate fluently in Kiswahili and local language relevant to the study implementation sites Attention to detail, ensuring accurate and consistent data recording Ability to work longer hours and sometimes over the weekends if required.
