Job Description

Position : Research Assistant Project Title : TETEA ‘Together Empowering society To Eliminate the Abuse of women and children’ Location of work : Tana River County (Tana River Sub County) No. of positions :8 (from Naivasha and Gilgil Sub-Counties) Reports to : CISP SBC Trainer & CISP MEAL Manager Duration : August/September 2025 - 8 days with the possibility of an extension. Objective : Quantitative data collection (individual interviews) Background Information CISP – Comitato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo dei Popoli (International Committee for the Development of Peoples) is a rights-based international NGO established in 1983 in Rome. CISP implements humanitarian, rehabilitation, and development projects through cooperation with public and private local actors in over 30 countries globally. Since 1997 CISP has been working in Kenya to carry out projects in areas of development by supporting national and county authorities to provide quality, equitable, transparent, and accountable services in various sectors. Over the past 23 years, CISP Kenya has expanded its activities across more than 12 Counties in both rural and urban areas in various sectors of intervention, including Agriculture and Food Security, Conservation, Livelihoods, Health and Nutrition, Protection (children, refugees, GBV), Education (early childhood, university), Governance, and Arts and Culture. CISP is leading a consortium of partners who have been implementing a 3 year project funded by by the European Union titled TETEA project - 'Together Empowering Society To Eliminate the Abuse of Women and Children ,' in Tana River County (Tana River sub-county) through PGI, Kakamega County (Shinyalu and Malava sub-counties) through KCWEP, and Nakuru County (Gilgil and Naivasha Sub- counties) through KNOTE. The overall objective/goal of the project is to contribute to eliminating all forms of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Violence Against Children (VAC) in Kenya. The specific objective is to address the root causes of all forms of GBV and VAC (i.e., harmful gender and social norms) and to strengthen the reporting system of GBV and VAC. The aim of this study is to measure community members’ knowledge, personal beliefs, practices and social norms towards Sexual violence, Teenage pregnancy, Child Marriage, and gender equality in Tana River Sub-County, Tana River County, Kenya. 1. The objective of the collaboration CISP and PGI (Pastoralist Girls Initiative) are recruiting 8 Research Assistants (RAs), from Tana River Sub-County, to support data collection to be conducted in August/September 2025 in the specific project locations. The RAs will receive ad-hoc three (3) days training in Hola (Tana River County), take part in inception meeting, the pilot testing of the data collection tools and conduct the data collection in the respective project locations. The study will apply a quantitative approach including pre-identified community participants including children aged 13 and above, men and women using structured interview questionnaires on ‘kobo collect’. 2. Roles/tasks of the RAs The main tasks of the RAs will include: ✓ Fully participate in the RAs training on the survey ✓ Conducting community quantitative data collection and KIIs with relevant stakeholders and approved research protocols as per CISP Kenya SOPs. ✓ Report comprehensive findings through digitized forms. 3. Payment The Research Assistant (RA) will be paid a daily stipend based on approved completed interviews, which will be paid after completing all the assigned tasks. 4. Transport and accommodation CISP and PGI will provide transport for the recruited RAs to the training and during fieldwork within Tana River sub-County. Accommodation and meals will be provided when and where needed including during the training. 5. Eligibility Requirements: 1. At least a diploma in social studies or development studies 2. Experience in quantitative data collection and in research activities involving communities. 3. Experience in data collection using mobile based applications 4. Interest and ability to work with different stakeholders (community members, Children, civil society, government officials etc.) 5. Available during the month of July (exact timeline to be confirmed) 6. Must be from the target sub-county (Tana River Sub-County) 7. Proficient user of the Microsoft Office package 8. Good communication skills in English, Swahili and the local language in the target sub-counties 9. Able to work independently and in a team.
