A new internship opportunity for a Protection Intern (Beledweyne, Somalia) has been announced by Action Aid International in Beledweyne. Position: Protection Intern (Beledweyne, Somalia) Duration: 6 Months ActionAid International Somalia (AAIS) is seeking a motivated and committed Women’s Rights and Protection Intern who demonstrates a strong interest in humanitarian and development work, with emerging skills in protection, rights-based programming, and community engagement. The Intern will support the organization in implementing, monitoring, and documenting protection activities, facilitating access to services for vulnerable populations, strengthening community-based protection mechanisms, and promoting evidence-based approaches to enhance the impact of AAIS initiatives in Somalia. The Role: The Women’s Rights and Protection Intern will support the Women’s Rights and Protection Coordinator and Somalia Program Manager in planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting protection-related activities across ActionAid programs in Somalia. The Intern will assist with field-based protection work, including identifying, registering, and analyzing the protection concerns and specific needs of targeted beneficiaries, supporting GBV referrals for IDP survivors, implementing protection mainstreaming activities in IDP sites and host communities, and managing Women and Girls Safe Spaces in Beledweyne. They will coordinate and provide training and mentorship for community volunteer case workers, adapt activities to meet the cultural and practical needs of women, girls, and children, organize community sensitization and awareness events, and maintain referral lists for psychosocial and mental health cases. The Intern will also represent ActionAid in stakeholder coordination meetings, support beneficiary selection and verification, contribute to capacity-building initiatives on women’s rights and protection, and monitor, document, and report on program activities to track progress against milestones and indicators. University Degree in Law, Social Science, Anthropology, Development Studies, Gender Studies, International Development, or other relevant field from a recognized institution. Minimum 1-2 years’ work experience in Protection, GBV, and child protection with a demonstrated focus on protection program design and implementation. Previous experience in working as an intern with a national or international NGO, UN agency or in humanitarian response setting will be an added advantage. Experience in working with displaced and/or conflict affected populations, such as refugees or IDPs Knowledge of community-based protection approaches, preferably including experience in working with IDP’s, Refugees or returnees. Qualifications & Requirements
