Countering Harmful Practices across Eastern Africa: Future for Bint Project
1. Position Details
Job Title: Project Officer
Project: Countering Harmful Practices across East Africa: Future4Binti Project
Location: Borama, Awdal Region (with regular field travel)
Reporting To: Program Coordinator
Supervises: Community Mobilizers/champions of change,Gender and Child protection desks and Youth-Friendly corners in health centers.
Contract Type: Fixed term
Duration: 12 months, (renewable subject to performance and funding])
Start Date: Immediately after selection confirmation

3. Project Background
The Countering Harmful Practices: Future4Binti Project seeks to reduce harmful traditional practices—particularly Child, Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM) and Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C)—while advancing gender equality and the empowerment of girls. The project adopts a community‑driven, multi‑stakeholder approach to address the root causes of harmful practices and strengthen local systems of protection.

7. Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Reproductive Health, Development Studies, Project management, Gender Studies, or a related field
Experience
Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in NGO or development work in the areas of Gender equality, empowerment of women advocacy, child protection, GBV and FGM/C
Demonstrated experience in gender, protection, or community-based programming
8. Skills and Competencies
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent facilitation and community engagement abilities
Solid organizational and time management skills
Data collection, analysis, and reporting skills
Ability to work independently and under pressure
High level of integrity and professionalism
9. Language Requirements
Fluency in Somali (required)
Working proficiency in English (required)
10. Working Conditions
The position is based in Borama with frequent travel to project sites
