Program Manager Kakenya’s Dream (KD) seeks to empower and motivate young girls through education and health to become agents of change and to break the cycle of destructive cultural practices in Kenya, such as female genital mutilation and early forced marriage. Job Summary The Program Manager will be a key leader at Kakenya's Dream, responsible for managing and expanding educational programs for girls and young women in Narok County. He/She will ensure that these programs provide access to high-quality, equitable, and transformative education, aligning with Kakenya's Dream's strategic objectives. The Program Manager will oversee Centers for Excellence, scholarships, mentorship, school support, and parental engagement, with the goal of increasing girls' enrollment, academic performance, and overall development. Location: Kakenya’s Dream field office located at Isampin, Transmara West, Narok County. Reports to: Director of Programs Supervises: Student Welfare Officer, Education Access Officer and Economic Empowerment Officer Key Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Curriculum & Educational Program Development Lead the development of a comprehensive organizational curriculum that builds on the government’s education curriculum, incorporating international best practices, and supports teachers in creating lesson plans and materials. Oversee the implementation of educational programs, ensuring alignment with Kakenya’s Dream’s strategic objectives and measurable outcomes. In collaboration with the Head of Institutions, provide educational materials to support teaching and learning within schools. Liaise with the Director of Programs and Head of Institutions to ensure quality delivery of education, including teacher training, benchmarking, and Ministry of Education quality assurance. 2. Teacher & Staff Development Organize and facilitate professional development programs for teachers, focusing on student-centered learning and effective classroom management. Offer continuous guidance and mentorship to direct supervisees , ensuring they have the resources and support needed to achieve program goals. 3. Student Support, Monitoring & Learning Outcomes Ensure effective tracking of student progress from enrollment to graduation, including transitions, academic performance, and dropout re-enrollment. In collaboration with the MEL Officer, develop and implement strategies for assessing the impact of educational programs and driving continuous improvement in student outcomes. Create systems for gathering feedback to evaluate and enhance the educational experiences provided to girls. 4. Infrastructure & Learning Environment Regularly evaluate school infrastructure needs (classrooms, sanitation, learning resources). Collaborate with local authorities and stakeholders to resolve deficiencies and enhance the physical learning environment. 5. Community Engagement & Parental Involvement Organize and facilitate training programs for parents on positive parenting, the importance of girls’ education, and the safe use of technology. Work closely with the Director of Programs and Head of Institutions to ensure Boards of Management are trained in leadership, management, and best practices. 6. Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure program success and sustainability. Engage in advocacy to promote policies and programs that support the holistic development of girls, especially in rural communities. Collaborate with local, county, and national governments to champion policies that promote gender equality in education. Engage with policymakers to dismantle barriers preventing rural girls from accessing and completing their education. 7. Data & Reporting Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of data related to student performance, program outcomes, and interventions to demonstrate the impact and success of Kakenya’s Dream’s educational initiatives. Prepare regular reports for management, donors, and stakeholders, ensuring proper documentation and transparency. 8. Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Change Ensure that girls and young women are included in local climate action planning and environmental policy discussions. Manage the day-to-day implementation of climate resilience programs, ensuring that all activities align with the organization’s strategic objectives. Prepare regular reports for management, donors, and stakeholders, documenting climate program activities, outcomes, and lessons learned. Ensure that records are properly maintained for accountability and transparency. Work with local and national governments to advocate for policies that support climate adaptation, girls’ education, and gender equality in climate change initiatives. Partner with local NGOs, government agencies, and international organizations to expand the scope and impact of climate resilience and adaptation programs. Explore and secure funding opportunities, such as grants, donations, and sponsorships, to support the climate resilience initiatives for girls and young women. Maintain good relationships with existing donors and stakeholders, ensuring continued support for climate adaptation programs. Create platforms that empower girls and young women to take up leadership roles in climate change decision-making, while building their capacity in climate change leadership. Develop and implement strategies for ensuring the sustainability of climate resilience programs, including building local capacity to continue initiatives after project completion. Coordinate the distribution of water storage tanks to schools and community health centers to improve water access. Facilitate the establishment of kitchen gardens in schools and communities, helping girls and young women develop skills in food security practices. Organize and facilitate tree-planting campaigns within schools and communities, empowering girls to take leadership roles in environmental conservation efforts. Track the number of trees planted and grown within the schools and the communities. Maintain partnerships with Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and local authorities for ongoing forest cover initiatives. Establish water user committees to ensure that community and school water sources are protected and managed sustainably. Ensure that water harvesting systems are functioning effectively, and track the number of tanks provided, water sources protected, and trained participants. 9. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor from time to time. Key Qualifications, Skills and competencies: Bachelor’s degree in primary or secondary education, pedagogy or other education related field. Post-graduate diploma in Project Planning and Management. 5–7 years of progressive experience in program or project management within the education sector (school systems, NGOs, government programs, or donor-funded projects). Proven track record of using student centered learning techniques and working with marginalized or underserved populations. Previous experience with overseeing the professional development of teachers. Strong verbal and writing skills and impeccable attention to detail High level of proficiency with Microsoft/Google Applications, especially Excel/Google Sheets Previous experience collecting, tracking and analyzing data. Proactive, organized and energetic self-starter with the willingness to work hands-on to develop and execute a variety of school programs and activities. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.
