How can you make a difference?

UNICEF, in collaboration with national and county governments and implementing partners, supports integrated outreach approaches that bring a package of preventive, promotive and curative services closer to underserved communities. The package includes screening, referral and treatment support for child wasting; maternal nutrition; infant and young child feeding counselling; growth monitoring and promotion; vitamin A supplementation; deworming; immunization; antenatal and postnatal services; community health services; health education; and referral of complicated cases.

Overall objective: To strengthen the targeting, planning, implementation, monitoring and documentation of integrated health and nutrition outreach services in the six target counties through rapid assessments, technical support, supportive supervision, capacity strengthening and knowledge management.

Specific objectives are to: (i) conduct RECCE to identify underserved populations, access constraints, service readiness and operational gaps; (ii) support development or updating of county and sub-county outreach microplans; (iii) strengthen coordination and quality of integrated outreach implementation; (iv) improve collection, validation, analysis and use of outreach data; and (v) document lessons, good practices and practical recommendations for sustainability and scale-up

Knowledge/Expertise/Skills:

  • An advanced university degree in public health, nutrition, nursing, medicine, community health, epidemiology, health systems or a related field is preferred. A first university degree in a relevant field combined with additional qualifying professional experience may be accepted.
  • At least five years of relevant professional experience in public health, nutrition, primary health care, immunization, maternal and child health, humanitarian nutrition and health, monitoring or integrated outreach programming, including at least two years of field-based technical support in fragile, emergency, underserved or hard-to-reach settings.
  • Relevant prior clinical experience may be considered where it demonstrably contributes to public-health programme support
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Working knowledge of Kiswahili is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant local languages is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in operational assessments, outreach planning, programme-data analysis and use, monitoring and supportive supervision, technical reporting, and development or adaptation of practical tools and guidance.
  • Experience with nutrition performance indicators, immunization performance indicators, catch-up vaccination or zero-dose programming is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with referral systems, outbreak preparedness, gender-responsive nutrition & health programming and capacity strengthening is an asset
