About the SHG Programme The Self-Help Group (SHG) Programme is a rights-based, community-driven approach that empowers women living in poverty to build economic, social, and political strength through collective action. The model begins with small, homogenous groups of women who meet weekly to save, lend internally, and support each other, gradually forming Cluster Level Associations (CLAs) and federations that evolve into strong “People’s Institutions.” Through this process, women gain confidence, financial discipline, leadership skills, and the ability to influence community decisions and advocate for their rights.
