Light for the World is a global development organisation. We empower people with disabilities and enable eye health services in low-income countries. Over the last three decades we improved health systems, enabled education for all, and amplified the voices of people with disabilities. Our programmes include: Eye Health – preventing blindness and promoting eye health for all Inclusive Education – ensuring children with disabilities receive quality, inclusive education Inclusive Economic Empowerment – ensuring that barriers are removed for men and women with disabilities to access decent work and business opportunities We focus on the poorest and hardest to reach because that’s where we will have the biggest impact. In Kenya, our country strategy for the year 2021-2025 focuses on Inclusive Economic Empowerment, and disability inclusion. We do this using the twin track approach of capacity building of persons with disabilities and building system strengthening so that barriers for employment and entrepreneurship are removed. Currently, Light for the World Kenya implements projects across nine counties, in Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Meru, Laikipia, Kisumu, Kakamega, Migori, Homa Bay, Makueni with the country office being located in Nairobi. Light for the world therefore seeks to recruit a monitoring and evaluation intern to support with routine monitoring and evaluation of programme activities. The monitoring and evaluation intern will report to the Senior Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, Learning and Adaptation Officer. Monitoring and Evaluation Intern - Based in Nairobi Key responsibilities: MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Provide technical support in planning, monitoring and database management Contribute to the analysis, aggregation, and synthesis of monitoring and evaluation data across programmes within Light for the World Kenya, ensuring timely and accurate reporting into the organizational database via ActivityInfo. Review programme-generated activity and periodic reports, with a focus on enhancing the quality and consistency of Key Performance Indicator reporting across relevant projects. Support the appraisal of assessment frameworks, baseline studies, and evaluation design documents, and where necessary, undertake field missions to strengthen data collection and contextual understanding. Collaborate with programme teams to develop and maintain data analysis dashboards on Power BI, leveraging integrations with ActivityInfo to ensure seamless data visualization and reporting. Actively engage in internal brainstorming sessions, contributing ideas and participating in discussions that foster innovation and continuous improvement within Light for the World Kenya Offices. Support quality assurance in programmes and projects Assist the MERLA team in carrying out Data Quality Assessments by helping check and organize project data. Join programme monitoring visits to support data collection and help verify reported activities. Help review programme design and learning documents by checking for completeness and organizing feedback from the team. Support Capacity Building Assist the Monitoring and Evaluation team in organizing and supporting capacity-building activities that promote understanding and adherence to MERLA framework guidelines, principles, and standards across Kenya Country programmes and projects. Other Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the Senior MERLA Officer or designated team member, in support of ongoing programme activities. Participate in committees and task forces when requested, contributing to discussions and team efforts as appropriate. Attend regular Monitoring & Evaluation and programme meetings to stay informed and engaged with team priorities. KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE Required Professional Experience Bachelor’s degree in Statistics , Economics , Data Science , or Project Management , with basic understanding of monitoring and evaluation concepts. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel or other data tools; familiarity with platforms like ActivityInfo or Power BI is an added advantage. Demonstrated ability to engage respectfully in community settings , including multicultural environments. Positive attitude toward disability inclusion , with openness to learning inclusive practices in development work. Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications Strong organizational skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment, with flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities and evolving programme needs. Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and openness to new ideas, especially in the field of development and inclusive programming. Effective interpersonal skills, with clear and respectful communication, both written and verbal, across diverse teams and stakeholders.
