Job Description

Marketing Specialist, Kenya – Field led. Sales driven. Hands on About Solar Panda Solar Panda is a Canadian high-growth, clean-tech company providing home solar systems and appliances to customers in Kenya who lack access to electricity. Our loan-to-own model enables families to afford reliable electricity and life-changing appliances, significantly improving their lives. Solar Panda provides innovative solar power systems for lighting and TV in rural communities. Our loan-to-own model allows households to have electricity for less than the daily cost of kerosene and mobile phone charging. With over 1 billion people worldwide without access to electricity, we believe that access to electricity should be a right for everyone, everywhere. This role reports to the Director of Field Operations. Salary range is between Ksh.200,000 to Ksh.250,000 per month. The Role Your mission is simple and demanding: prove that smart, coordinated marketing drives real sales uplift — quickly. This is not a desk-only marketing role. We’re looking for a mid-level marketer who can think strategically and execute on the ground. Someone who can turn insight into action, plans into activations, and spend into measurable sales impact. You’ll be a one-person marketing department (but with a lot of support), working closely with Field Sales Teams, Logistics, HR and Senior Management. Kenya market context Kenya is Solar Panda’s most mature and complex market, with a national shop network, experienced field agents, and a diverse customer base across peri-urban and rural regions. Marketing here must balance national consistency with local relevance, including language, culture, seasonality, and buying behaviour. What works in one region may not work in another – and part of this role is knowing the difference. Kenya is your primary market. The systems, playbooks, and learnings developed here will directly inform how we build marketing capability in other markets. Why this role matters Solar Panda has sold 350,000+ units in Kenya over the past six years — largely through sales effort. Now we want to take the next step: a coordinated, HQ-led marketing approach that supports and amplifies sales. This role exists to prove that marketing can and should drive measurable growth. If that excites you, you’ll fit right in. What success looks like (first 3–6 months) Within your first 3 months, you will have: Designed, planned, and delivered a cross-country roadshow — end to end Selected and managed third party roadshow / rigging partners Planned routes, timelines, and locations across Kenyan regions Worked directly with local Field Agents to execute in market Within 6 months, you will have: Shown clear evidence that marketing investment is contributing to sales uplift Put a system in place to capture leads, track spend, and report conversion to sales Built a repeatable Kenya playbook for national and local activations Established clear recommendations on where to focus next (channels, regions, tactics) What you’ll actually do 1. Field marketing & activations (core of the role) Learn from what Field Agents and shops have already tested (including vernacular radio and local promotions) and scale what works Treat radio and road shows as core growth channels, not secondary tactics Plan and deliver roadshows, market activations, pop‑ups, and community events across Kenya Decide what gets done nationally vs locally, and why Design and deliver targeted activations with women’s groups, savings groups, community organizations, and other trusted local networks , lowering barriers to access and purchase Ensure shops, vehicles, and activation sites are properly branded and consistent Brief, manage, and hold third party suppliers accountable (roadshows, printing, photography) You don’t just suggest — you deliver 2. Strategy, insight & campaigns Map the Kenyan customer journey from awareness to purchase Identify key barriers to purchase across different regions and customer segments Propose practical ways to address and mitigate those barriers Be opinionated about the right mix of channels Shape campaign ideas, taglines, messaging, and timing Design campaigns that are practical, measurable, and sales focused 3. Social media & content direction Set direction for Solar Panda’s social media presence in Kenya Advise on content themes, frequency, and tone Work with photographers or content creators when needed Maintain an up-to-date photo and content library Ensure customer consent is collected for any photos or testimonials used 4. Budgeting, reporting & accountability Propose marketing budgets and campaign spend Track costs vs outcomes Report clearly on leads, conversions, and sales impact Be comfortable answering the question: “What did we get for this spend?” 5. Internal communications Share wins internally — strong agents, great activations, customer stories Capture testimonials and success stories from the field Help the wider team see what’s working, where, and why Support internal alignment between Sales, Operations, and HQ How you’ll work Based in Kenya Primary market: Kenya (with exposure to Zambia and future markets) Reports to: Head of Sales Supported by: Logistics, Field Teams, Strategic Ops Comfortable coordinating across regions, counties, and shop clusters — often with changing conditions No direct reports (for now) Who you are Comfortable being both strategic and scrappy Happy in the field, not just in slides Organized, decisive, and execution focused Confident managing suppliers and budgets Data aware: you care about results, not just activity Curious about customers and grounded in real market insight Comfortable working across multiple Kenyan languages and vernacular radio markets, even if content is executed via agents or partners Comfortable spending significant time in the field, including up-country travel Experience in fast-moving consumer, field sales, or emerging markets is a strong plus. Diversity, equity & inclusion at Solar Panda Solar Panda Kenya Limited is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
