JOB SUMMARY
The GBV Nurse will provide medical care, support, and advocacy for survivors of gender-based
violence by assessing injuries, providing treatment, offering psychosocial support, documenting
evidence, collaborating with other professionals, and promoting awareness and prevention.
Key Responsibilities:
• Take the vital signs of all p
atients
• Provide medical support of patient for medical or Clinical officers.
• Attend to survivors of violence, including examination, sending for required investigations and
filling of post rape care form and p3 forms.
• Attend to emergencies: resuscitate or stabilize before sending for admission.
• Perform general Nursing duties, e.g. wound cleaning and dressing, stitching, injection
administration, sterilization and cleaning of instruments, preparation of biohazards and sharps
for disposal.
• Ensure adherence to and assist patients through the correct sequence of events when being
attended to at the Clinic as per flow-chart.
• Maintain and update patient records as required.
• Complete data entry on all relevant forms, Kenya EMR and registers.
• Ensure that there is a GBV kit and it’s well stocked.
• Help in counseling when necessary.
• Ensure that confidentiality of patient’s information is maintained at all times.
• Attend GBV programme meetings as requested by the Supervisor.
• Put on your identification cards at all times and wear uniform as approved by the Nursing
Council.
• Establish and maintain a good working relationship with all members of staff.
• Act responsibly and in a professional manner at all times.
• Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements:
➢ Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Nursing [KRCHN or KRN]
➢ Registration from the Nursing Council of Kenya
➢ SGBV training is an added advantage.
➢ At least 3 years’ experience.
➢ Experience in attending to survivors of violence.
➢ Experience and knowledge of SGBV laws in Kenya.
➢ Experience and knowledge of Kenyan court proceedings and ever testified as a expert will be an
added advantage.
