Job Description
In collaboration with their colleagues at Makerere University and Mbarara University of Science and Technology in Uganda, key educator roles and responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): Providing formal and informal clinical instruction and mentorship to medical and nursing students, residents, house staff and faculty colleagues emphasizing best practice standards; Modeling sound clinical diagnostic and therapeutic bedside practice; Assisting with creating/adapting/implementing improved clinical guidelines and/or critical care treatment protocols with local faculty; Providing classroom-based instruction to undergraduate and post-graduate trainees, incorporating curriculum development and student assessment; Enhancing existing clinical training systems and structures by developing and implementing innovative teaching tools through collaboration with faculty colleagues; Providing mentorship/advising to learners and colleagues on dissertations, academic writing, and research; Supporting professional development opportunities, including in areas of research and advocacy, requested by partner-country faculty and clinicians; Job Requirements To be eligible to serve with Seed Global Health as an Emergency Medicine Physician Educator, you must at minimum have: Have a medical degree (MD, DO, MBBS, MBChB) Have registration, qualifications, and/or other form of recognition from a national credentialing body or board at the time of placement Have completed post-graduate residency/MMED training in Emergency Medicine Have experience working with populations in resource limited areas either domestically and/or internationally Have experience teaching in classroom, simulation and/or clinical settings Have an active valid license to practice at the time of placement Have availability for approximately 12 months Be proficient in English language Preference is given to applicants who demonstrate: Familiarity with teaching and/or administration of post-graduate emergency medicine training programs Experience initiating/supporting new health care training programs Experience providing informal and/or formal mentorship to trainees and junior faculty An ability to design curricula for and/or provide instruction in the simulation environment Experience with successful grant applications, research, and academic writing Benefits Pay & Leave Educators receive a monthly salary. Educators are eligible for a minimum of 4 weeks' paid leave. Educators are eligible for a readjustment allowance post-service. Completion Award Seed Educators who complete a year of service will receive a "Completion of Service Certificate" in recognition of their’ commitment to strengthening health education and mentoring the next generation of international healthcare leaders. Housing & Travel Housing that meets our minimum safety and amenity standards is provided for educators by Seed or partner institutions. There may be occasional situations where housing is shared, and some educators may live directly on the placement site's premises. Seed handles all travel logistics to and from the country of placement. Insurance Comprehensive medical and dental insurance. Medical and security assistance and evacuation insurance. Malpractice insurance while in country. Workers compensation insurance. Visa/Work Permit Seed will sponsor and guide you in submitting documentation to acquire the appropriate visas, work permits, and licenses to legally fulfill your duties in your placement country.
