https://eaydps.nrc.no/ This research responds to the need for context-specific evidence on how education systems can be strengthened to effectively integrate MHPSS, SEL, and teacher wellbeing. NRC’s experience in refugee and host contexts provides a valuable platform for understanding the practical enablers and barriers to sustainable integration. The study will: • Generate empirical evidence on how existing education interventions can promote MHPSS and SEL within formal and non-formal settings. • Document models and practices that enhance teacher wellbeing and resilience. • Inform policy dialogue and system-level reforms to mainstream psychosocial and emotional learning approaches in Kenya’s education system To generate evidence on effective strategies for strengthening education systems for MHPSS, SEL, and teacher wellbeing in refugee and host community settings in Kenya. Specific Objectives • To analyze the current status and institutional capacity for integrating MHPSS and SEL within Kenya’s education system, with a focus on refugee-hosting areas. • To document NRC’s experiences and lessons from implementing the Better Learning Programme (BLP) and related initiatives. • To explore teachers’ wellbeing, resilience, and coping mechanisms within humanitarian and host community schools. • To identify opportunities and policy entry points for system-level strengthening of MHPSS and SEL integration. • To provide actionable recommendations for NRC, the Ministry of Education (MoE), and partners to scale effective approaches. he research partner will undertake the following tasks: 1. Inception Phase o Conduct a desk review of existing literature, frameworks, and NRC programme documentation. o Develop a detailed research design and methodology, including tools, sampling strategy, and ethical considerations. o Submit an inception report for review and approval. 2. Fieldwork and Data Collection o Conduct qualitative and quantitative data collection in selected sites in Dadaab, Kakuma, and Kalobeyei, and relevant host communities. o Engage key stakeholders including learners, teachers, headteachers, MoE officials, implementing partners, and community members. 3. Data Analysis and Validation o Analyze findings to identify trends, lessons, and system-level opportunities. o Facilitate a validation workshop with NRC and partners to discuss emerging findings. 4. Reporting and Dissemination o Develop a comprehensive research report highlighting evidence, lessons learned, and recommendations. o Produce a policy brief and presentation for dissemination to education stakeholders.
