About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) to lead our global compliance operations. The CCO will be responsible for strengthening the company's compliance framework, managing regulatory and financial-crime risks, and ensuring the organization meets applicable regulatory requirements as it continues to grow.

This is a senior leadership role requiring strong practical experience in banking, money transfer/remittance, or regulated financial services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the company's global compliance function.
  • Strengthening AML/CFT, KYC/KYB, sanctions, transaction monitoring, and financial-crime controls.
  • Identify and manage risks related to customers, transactions, agents, products, countries, and high-risk corridors.
  • Develop and improve compliance policies, procedures, controls, monitoring, and quality assurance.
  • Ensure compliance deficiencies are identified, escalated, and effectively remediated.
  • Maintain regulatory readiness and manage relationships with regulators and auditors.
  • Provide the CEO and Board with clear reporting on material compliance risks, issues, and remediation.
  • Build and lead an effective compliance team with clear accountability and performance standards.
  • Continuously improve the compliance function as the company's operations and regulatory requirements evolve.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required Experience

5–7+ years of experience in compliance, AML/CFT, financial crime, risk, or regulatory functions.

Significant experience in banking, money transfer/remittance, mobile money, payments, or regulated financial services.

Proven experience leading a compliance function or team.

Strong knowledge of AML/CFT, KYC/KYB, transaction monitoring, sanctions, CDD/EDD, and financial-crime risk.

Experience managing compliance across multiple branches, agents, products, countries, or remittance corridors.

Demonstrated ability to strengthen compliance operations, controls, and risk frameworks.

Experience working with regulators, auditors, senior executives, and Board-level stakeholders.

Strong leadership, communication, judgment, and decision-making skills.

Professional certification in compliance, AML/CFT, financial crime, or a related field (e.g., CAMS/ACAMS, ICA, CCEP/CCEP-I, CFE, or equivalent) is required or strongly preferred.

Preferred Experience

Bachelor’s degree in law, Finance, Accounting, Banking, Economics, Risk Management, Compliance, or a related field.

A master’s degree is preferred but not required.

The successful CCO will strengthen the organization's compliance capabilities, improve risk identification and mitigation, establish stronger controls and monitoring, improve regulatory readiness and reporting, and build a proactive, scalable, and accountable global compliance function capable of supporting the company's continued growth.

  • Previous CCO, Head of Compliance, Chief AML Officer, or senior compliance leadership experience.
  • Experience with a Somali bank, money-transfer company, mobile-money provider, or financial institution.
  • Experience working with the Central Bank of Somalia.
  • Experience with international remittance corridors involving Somalia.
  • Experience in cross-border payments, correspondent banking, or agent networks.
  • CAMS/ACAMS, ICA, CFE, or equivalent certification.
