Job summary: Clinical Officer-Psychiatric will be responsible for providing both primary health care and comprehensive mental health services, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients at Kakenya Health & Wellness Centre (KHWC). Location: Kakenya Health and Wellness Centre at Isampin, Transmara West Sub-County. Reports to: Clinical Officer in Charge and Administrator. Supervises: None Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Project Activities: Ensure implementation and standardization of KHWC clinical policies, tools and hygiene protocols. Use both Clinic, Community and School based approaches in offering healthcare services. Diagnose, treat and provide evidence-based management of out-patients, including patients with mental illness. Refer cases requiring specialized care to higher level health facilities. Cover the hospital during weekends, at night and whenever called upon by the team lead. Carry out minor surgical procedures and attend to emergencies. Identify mental health related gaps and advice programming on patient centred interventions. Participate actively in regular CMEs and training of staff on the job. 2. Records and Reporting: Maintain accurate patient records and ensure all records are properly documented. Maintain integrity and confidentiality of patient’s data and information. Prepare comprehensive handover reports to facilitate smooth transition during annual leave. 3. Quality Controls and Assurance: Adhere to patient management protocol and guidelines at all times. Ensure timely reporting to management on matters that need attention. Participate in any other project tasks/activities as required by your team lead. 4. Carry out any other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned by the Supervisor from time to time . Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Education/Academic Qualification Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution. Professional Qualification Higher diploma in psychiatry/mental health training Relevant Work Experience At least two (2)years’ experience in both outpatient and mental health setup. Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required Strong understanding of common illnesses, mental disorders, treatment protocols, and the latest developments in the field. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills. Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with compassion and empathy. Attention to details and ability to work under pressure and deliver under minimal supervision.
